
No. 16 WVU to Host No. 20 BYU for Annual Pink Match

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 16-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team returns home to play host to No. 20 BYU on Thursday, Oct. 8. Kickoff at Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium in Morgantown is set for 7 p.m. ET.
Thursday's match is WVU's annual Pink Match, presented by the WVU Medicine Cancer Institute. All fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the fight against breast cancer. Visit the marketing table in the concourse for pink bracelet making, an "I Fight For" bulletin board and a pink pom pom giveaway. The Mountaineers also will present a check to the cancer institute pregame.
Single-game tickets are available to purchase in advance by visiting WVUGAME.com or calling 1-800-WVU GAME. When purchasing online, tickets are $12 each. Any remaining tickets are $12 for adults and $8 for youth and seniors at the stadium ticket window on match day.
New for the 2026 season, all student tickets for WVU's Olympic sports will transition to mobile delivery. Students will now be required to log in to their WVUGAME.com account to reserve a student ticket for each home athletics event. For Olympic sports, there is no request process. Students will simply log in to their account using the single sign-on functionality, navigate to the sport of the event they would like to attend and reserve a ticket.
Andrew Caridi and Michael Minnich have the call of Thursday's contest on ESPN+. The game also can be heard on 91.7 FM (WWVU) in Morgantown, and live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Last time out, West Virginia capped a three-game road stretch with a 2-0 win over Houston on Oct. 2. Junior forward/defender Sophia Nickel was the hero once again for the Mountaineers, scoring her fifth game-winning goal of the season. Senior defender Olivia Shertzer also scored in the match, helping West Virginia hand Houston its first Big 12 Conference loss of the season. The final box score showed Houston leading 17-13 in shots, while West Virginia led 9-5 in shots on goal. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth and the Mountaineer defense secured their fifth of the year and second straight clean sheet in the win.
Thursday's matchup marks the third overall meeting between West Virginia and BYU, as the Mountaineers and Cougars are tied 1-1 in the series. The two teams met last year in Provo on Sept. 24, with the Mountaineers earning a thrilling 3-2 victory over No. 16 BYU. Thursday's match also marks BYU's first-ever trip to Morgantown, with the two teams' first contest being a neutral-site match in University Park, Pa., in 2009.
The Cougars, led by 31-year head coach Jennifer Rockwood, enter Thursday's game with a 7-2-2 record. BYU is coming off a 2-1 win against Kansas State, giving them a 3-0-1 record in the Big 12. Junior forward Emma Hamberlin leads the offense with four goals on 13 shots so far this season. In goal, senior Chelsea Peterson has recorded 24 saves on the year.
