MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 18-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team caps a three-game road swing when it travels to Houston on Friday, Oct. 2. Kickoff at the Carl Lewis International Complex in Houston, Texas, is set for 8 p.m. ET/7 p.m. CT.
The match will be streamed live on ESPN+, while live stats are available at WVUsports.com.
Friday's matchup marks the fourth all-time meeting between West Virginia and Houston, as the Mountaineers hold a 2-1 advantage in the series. The two teams met last year in Morgantown, with WVU claiming a thrilling, come-from-behind 3-2 win. Taylor White scored a pair of goals in last year's matchup to lead the comeback for the Mountaineers.
Of note, West Virginia is making its third trip to Houston in the last four meetings, as the two teams have only met in Morgantown once since the Cougars joined the Big 12 Conference in 2023.
West Virginia has outscored its opponents 13-6 so far this season, while the WVU defense has held seven of nine opponents to three shots on goal or fewer in each match. Of note, the Mountaineers suffered their first loss of the season on Sept. 24, snapping a 22-match regular-season unbeaten streak, which dated back to Aug. 28, 2025.
Last time out, West Virginia returned to the win column with a 2-0 victory over Iowa State on Sept. 27 in Ames, Iowa. Junior forward/defender Sophia Nickel tallied her fourth game-winning goal of the season in the seventh minute to put WVU on the board early. Senior forward Abbey Olexa also added a goal in the match, doubling the Mountaineer lead in the 56th minute. West Virginia led 15-7 in shots, 8-3 in shots on goal and 6-3 in corner kicks. Redshirt senior goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth and the Mountaineer defense also secured their fourth shutout of the year.
Houston is led by head coach Ben Williams and enters Friday's match with a 7-1-3 record so far this year. The Cougars are coming off a 1-0 win over Oklahoma State on Sept. 27, riding a five-game home win streak. Junior forward Skylar Miller leads the offense with six goals and two assists. In goal, junior Sierra McCluer has recorded 27 saves on the year.
