MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 15 West Virginia University baseball team is set to take on Penn State in a neutral site game at Meritus Park in Hagerstown, Maryland. First pitch on Wednesday is set for 5:30 p.m.
The game will not be streamed, but fans can listen on Mountaineer Sports Network and can follow live stats at wvusports.com.
The Mountaineers are 24-8 this season after taking two of three over the weekend against Texas Tech. It was the first time WVU had won a series in Lubbock since joining the Big 12.
All three starting pitchers – Dawson Montesa, Maxx Yehl, and Chansen Cole – went at least 7.0 innings, the first time a weekend rotation had done that for the Mountaineers since 2019.
Graduate student Sean Smith was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after hitting .600 with four doubles and six RBI in four games, which also included a midweek win over Marshall. Smith and sophomore Gavin Kelly lead the team with five home runs this season while Kelly has a team-best .418 batting average.
Pitching Probables
RHP David Hagen (2-0, 1.88 ERA, 13 K, 8 BB, 14.1 IP) vs. RHP Mason Butash (0-0, 5.60 ERA, 14 K, 10 BB, 17.2 IP)
Penn State is led by third-year head coach Mike Gambino, who is 72-70 during his tenure in State College. The Nittany Lions are 10-23 this season and are coming off a 1-2 weekend against Ohio State.
Arkansas transfer Michael Anderson leads PSU with a .380 batting average, 15 home runs, and 40 RBI. Kyle Emmons has been top pitcher for Penn State with a 4.74 ERA in 13 appearances out of the bullpen.
