
Kelly, Yehl Collect Big 12 Weekly Awards

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Sophomore Gavin Kelly and redshirt junior Maxx Yehl of the No. 9 West Virginia University baseball team have been named Big 12 Player and Pitcher of the Week, respectively, as announced by the conference on Monday.
It is the second time this season for both Kelly and Yehl that they have taken home the honors. Overall, the Mountaineers have now had seven Big 12 weekly awards this season.
Kelly had a big week at the plate, hitting .412 with four home runs, five RBI, and six runs scored. He began the week with a two homer game against Marshall before hitting home runs in each of the first two games at No. 7 Kansas. He had at least one hit in all four games and scored at least one run. For the week, he had a 1.118 slugging percentage and 1.618 OPS.
On the mound, Yehl was dominant facing the seventh-ranked team in the nation, throwing a complete game while striking out nine. He allowed just one run on six hits and lowered his ERA on the season to a Big 12 best 2.04.
Overall, it is the19th time that a Mountaineer has collected Big 12 Player of the Week honors and the 23rd time a WVU pitcher has earned Pitcher of the Week.
The Mountaineers will be back on the diamond, May 14-16, against TCU. First pitch on Thursday is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
