CINCINNATI (April 25, 2026) – Picking up in the 12^th inning of a 5-5 game, the No. 12 West Virginia University baseball team scored four in the 13^th to win the conclusion of the suspended game, 9-5, over Cincinnati. In the regularly scheduled contest, the Mountaineers fell to the Bearcats, 5-2, Saturday afternoon at UC Baseball Stadium.

West Virginia goes 28-11 and 13-7 in the Big 12 while Cincinnati goes to 28-17 and 9-11 in conference play.

To start the day, sophomore Chansen Cole got two outs in the 12^th to send the game to the 13^th where the Mountaineers put up four spots, getting the go-ahead runs on a two-run single by redshirt freshman Maxwell Molessa. Senior Paul Schoenfeld followed with a bunt single and when the throw got away, another run came home. Senior Ben Lumsden tacked on a fourth run with an RBI groundout.

In the bottom of the 13^th, Cincinnati loaded the bases, but Cole induced a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

In game two, Cole was sent back out to the mound for the start and allowed two runs in 3.0 innings while striking out four. The Mountaineers got him off the hook with two runs in the fourth as graduate student Sean Smith had an RBI single before coming home to score on a wild pitch.

The Bearcats scored a pair of runs in the fifth on wild pitches before adding an unearned run in the sixth.

Sophomore Joshua Surigao kept the Mountaineers in the game with 1.2 scoreless innings to get to the ninth, where they loaded the bases with one out, but could not push across a run.

The two teams will meet in the rubber match on Sunday with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
