
Mountaineers Set to Host Backyard Brawl

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 12 West Virginia University baseball team returns to Kendrick Family Ballpark to take on Pitt in this year's lone edition of the Backyard Brawl. First pitch on Tuesday, April 21, is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
Tickets are available at WVUGame.com, by calling 1-800-WVU-GAME or visiting the Mountaineer Ticket Office at Kendrick Family Ballpark. Student tickets are free with a WVU ID. Fans can watch the game on ESPN+, listen on the Mountaineer Sports Network, and can follow with live stats at WVUsports.com.
All fans sitting in the even sections, suites, and students are encouraged to wear gold, while all odd sections and standing room are encouraged to wear blue as we stripe the ballpark.
Reserved parking will be in effect for the game. Access to the lot adjacent to Kendrick Family Ballpark requires a valid parking pass. A limited number of ADA-accessible spaces are available near Gate A and next to the Clubhouse on a first-come, first-served basis. All other fans should use the general parking lots located across the street from Kendrick Family Ballpark.
Sophomore Gavin Kelly leads the Mountaineers with a .397 batting average and 34 RBI. He is also tied with graduate student Sean Smith and senior Matthew Graveline in home runs with five. Junior Armani Guzman leads the Big 12 with 24 stolen bases while senior Paul Schoenfeld has 18.
On the mound, graduate student Reese Bassinger has been a top option in the bullpen with a 2.93 ERA in 30.2 innings across 17 appearances. He also leads all relievers with 38 strikeouts. As a whole, the WVU pitching staff leads the Big 12 with a 3.91 ERA.
Pitt 24-14 this season and are ninth in the country in scoring, averaging 9.3 runs per game. They are coming off a 1-2 weekend at Virginia Tech.
Lorenzo Carrier leads the team with a .378 batting average, 14 home runs, and 55 RBI. The pitching staff has a 6.01 ERA while striking out 8.5 batters per nine innings.
