MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University golf team will return to action on Monday, hosting the Mountaineer Invitational at Pete Dye Golf Club in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
This will be the 11th consecutive Mountaineer Invitational. West Virginia won the team titles in 2024, April 2021, 2019 and 2018. Bowling Green won the event in 2017, Arkansas captured the team title in 2016 and Penn State won the inaugural event in 2015. NC State won in October 2021 and Oklahoma State won the Mountaineer Invitational in 2023 and in 2025.
No. 61 West Virginia will be joined by 18 other teams at Pete Dye: No. 5 Arkansas, No. 6 Oklahoma State, No. 8 Texas Tech, No. 36 Clemson, No. 38 TCU, No. 94 Baylor, No. 96 Xavier James Madison, UNC Greensboro, Ball State, VCU, George Mason, Western Kentucky, William & Mary, Navy, Villanova, Appalachian State and Saint Francis.
"We are very excited to be hosting such a prestigious field of teams at Pete Dye Golf Club this week," coach Sean Covich said. "Several Top 10 ranked teams, including the defending NCAA National Champions (Oklahoma State), in the field will provide a great test for us."
Tee times will begin at 8:15 a.m. on Monday with all 19 teams scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and then 18 holes on Tuesday, starting at 8 a.m. The event is free and open to the public. Pete Dye Golf Club is a par-72, 7,308-yard course.
This event will consist of five golfers per team with the top four counting in team scoring for each round. West Virginia's lineup will consist of senior Kaleb Wilson, junior Harrison Thompson, sophomores Ryan Leach and Nick Turowski and freshman Jack Michael. Brody Burgess, Aidan Dortch, Westy McCabe and Gabe Schmitz will compete as individuals for WVU.
"This tournament has grown throughout the years, and I couldn't be more grateful to Pete Dye and their support of our golf program," Covich said. "Our team has shown moments of greatness and also had some disappointments, but any time you get the opportunity to play your home course it should provide some momentum as we are very familiar with the setup."
Results for the tournament will be available at Scoreboard by clippd.
