Mountaineers to Recognize 14 Seniors on Friday Night at Hope Coliseum
March 05, 2026 01:20 PM | Men's Basketball
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia concludes regular-season play on Friday night at Hope Coliseum against UCF.
With a victory against the Knights, WVU will finish either seventh or eighth in the Big 12 standings, as opposed to ninth or 10th with a loss after being picked to finish 11th in the preseason poll.
A total of 14 senior players, student managers and student athletic trainers will be recognized before the game. The players are Treysen Eaglestaff, Jackson Fields, Jasper Floyd, Honor Huff, Brenen Lorient, Chance Moore and Harlan Obioha; the managers are Gavin Barkley, Luca Cappelli, Mason Davis, Tim Illari, Nathan Stryker, Colline Willits and athletic trainer Kevin Kilinskas.
West Virginia has won 10 of its last 12 Senior Day games, including last year's matchup against UCF. In that game, WVU jumped out to a 23-point first half lead and then had to hang on for dear life in the second half to pull out a 72-65 triumph.
The Mountaineers and Knights are coming off disappointing performances on Tuesday night. While West Virginia was losing 65-63 at Kansas State, UCF was upset 111-104 in overtime at home against Oklahoma State. Despite the loss, the 20-9 overall Knights remain comfortably in Joe Lunardi's latest NCAA Tournament bracket as an eight-seed.
The Knights have a solid 48 NCAA NET ranking.
West Virginia defeated UCF 74-67 earlier this year in Orlando.
"They are extremely talented," West Virginia coach Ross Hodge said. "They have a lot of different guys that can hurt you. To start that second half in particular, our inability to take care of the basketball led directly to them getting run-outs and when you put them on the open floor they are dynamic."
On multiple occasions, the 62nd-ranked Mountaineers have put themselves in the NCAA Tournament bubble discussion only to lose to teams below them in the league standings.
It happened on Feb. 18 when it lost at home to Utah, it happened again on Feb. 24 when it lost in overtime at Oklahoma State, and it occurred earlier this week when it fell at Kansas State.
At 17-13 overall and 8-9 in conference play, West Virginia is going to need to win Friday and make a deep run in the Big 12 Tournament in Kansas City in order to entertain any NCAA Tournament hopes.
West Virginia's leading scorer Honor Huff is now 35th on the NCAA's all-time 3-point field goal list with 394 and he needs only 15 more to crack the top 25.
Huff is eighth among all active players with 1,937 career points.
Friday night's game will tip off at 8 p.m. and will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network (John Sadak and BJ Taylor). Mountaineer Sports Network radio coverage with Tony Caridi, Brad Howe and studio host David Kahn gets underway at 7 p.m. on stations throughout West Virginia, online via WVUsports.com and the Varsity Network and WVU Gameday apps.
Big 12 Tournament pairings will be announced following the conclusion of the Arizona-Colorado game late Saturday night.
