
Mountaineers Head West to Take on No. 22 Arizona State

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 17 West Virginia University baseball team travels out west to Tempe to take on the No. 22 Arizona State Sun Devils in a three-game weekend set at Phoenix Municipal Stadium. First pitch for Friday and Saturday is set for 9:30 p.m. with Sunday being at 8:00 p.m.
Fans can watch the first two games of the series on ESPN+ while Sunday's game will air on ESPN2. Fans can also listen on Mountaineer Sports Network and can follow live stats will at wvusports.com.
The Mountaineers are coming off a 3-0 road win against in-state rival Marshall on Tuesday, March 24 in Huntington, W.Va. Starting pitcher David Hagen tossed three scoreless innings on the mound to improve his record to 2-0 on the season. Graduate students Ian Korn and Reese Bassinger followed with three and two scoreless innings respectively, before freshman David Perez closed out the ninth inning for his fifth save as the four pitchers combined for a one-hitter.
This weekend is the first ranked-vs-ranked Big 12 matchup for the Mountaineers since facing Texas Tech in 2023 when both teams were ranked in the USA Today Coaches Poll. It is the first time that WVU has had a ranked conference matchup when both are in the D1Baseball rankings.

At the plate, the Sun Devils are led by Landon Hairston, who is hitting .452 with 10 home runs and 33 RBIs on the season, all team-highs. All-American LHP Cole Carlon leads the way on the mound pitching to a 3.19 ERA in 31.0 innings pitched, while registering 48 strikeouts.
