MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 16-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team suffered a 2-1 loss at Oklahoma State inside Neal Patterson Stadium in Stillwater, Oklahoma, on Sunday afternoon.

Although the Mountaineers (9-4-2, 4-4-1 Big 12) were on the board first, the Cowgirls scored a pair of unanswered goals in the second half to come away with the upset victory.

After a scoreless first half, West Virginia found the back of the net with a goal from junior forward/defender Sophia Nickel in the 50th minute. The score was set up by redshirt senior forward Saige Wimes, who fed a pass to senior forward Abbey Olexa. After getting control of the ball, Olexa sent the ball across the box and found Nickel open at the far post for the go-ahead score.

However, Oklahoma State was able to draw level just under 10 minutes later with a goal of its own. The two teams were knotted in a 1-1 tie until the Mountaineers were whistled for a handball in the box in the 89th minute. The Cowgirls converted the ensuing PK, securing just their fourth-ever win over West Virginia.

The final box score showed Oklahoma State leading in every category, including 15-10 in shots, 8-6 in shots on goal and 6-5 in corner kicks. Despite allowing a pair of goals, redshirt senior goalkeeper Bailey Herfurth made five key saves in the match, including corralling a trio of dangerous shots in the final minutes of the contest.

With the loss, West Virginia's record against Oklahoma State moves to 12-4-1, while the squad is 3-2-1 in games played in Stillwater.
