Mountaineers Fall to Arizona in Big 12 Semifinals

ARLINGTON, Texas – The West Virginia University baseball team lost to Arizona, 12-1, Friday in the Big 12 semifinals at Globe Life Field. The Mountaineers drop to 41-14 overall while the Wildcats improve to 38-18 and advance to the championship game.
Juniors Logan Sauve and Sam White each had two hits for the Mountaineers while redshirt junior Chase Swain drove in a run.
On the mound, graduate student Jack Kartsonas got the start and struck out six in 4.0 innings while allowing five runs, suffering the loss.
Arizona took the lead with a run in the first and added another in the third before tacking on three in the fifth on Mason White's second home run of the game. The Wildcats continued their scoring in the sixth with two runs, the seventh with three, and the ninth with two more.
The Mountaineers only run of the game came in the seventh on a single from Swain to score sophomore Armani Guzman, who had two hits off the bench for WVU.
West Virginia will turn its attention to the NCAA Regionals which will begin on Friday, May 30. The selection show will air on Monday, May 26 at 12 p.m. ET on ESPN2.
