MARANA, Ariz. – The West Virginia University golf team will make its return to NCAA Regionals as the Mountaineers will head to the Marana Regional at The Gallery Golf Club in Marana, Arizona, from May 18-20.
It marks WVU's third NCAA appearance for the program since it was reinstated in 2015-16. WVU was a No. 8 seed in the Louisville Regional in 2019 and a No. 10 seed in the Rancho Santa Fe Regional in 2024. In 2024, WVU finished in third place at the regional and advanced to the NCAA Golf Championships for the first time since 1947.
The Gallery Golf Club is a par 72, 7,317-yard course. WVU will begin play on No. 1 with tee times starting at 7:55 a.m. local time (10:55 a.m. ET) on Monday.
The Mountaineers are the No. 9 seed in the Marana Regional. They will be joined by seeds No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 LSU, No. 3 Arizona, No. 4 Alabama, No. 5 Duke, No. 6 Clemson, No. 7 San Diego State, No. 8 Arkansas State, No. 10 Florida Gulf Coast, No. 11 Saint Mary's, No. 12 Tarleton State, No. 13 North Dakota State and No. 14 Iona.
West Virginia's lineup will consist of seniors Westy McCabe and Kaleb Wilson, junior Harrison Thompson (substitute), sophomores Ryan Leach and Nick Turowski and freshman Jack Michael. This will be Wilson's third consecutive NCAA Regional appearance. He competed as an individual last season. Thompson traveled as a substitute in WVU's last team appearance.
"We are excited about this opportunity," coach Sean Covich said. "Earning a spot in the NCAA Tournament is always special. The guys have had an amazing season winning a school record three tournament titles while also finishing in the top three in several other strong events. This week is all about focusing on our golf and trying to be the best version of ourselves that we can be. We can't control what other teams shoot, only how we prepare and compete."
Six 54-hole NCAA Regional tournaments will be conducted from May 18-20. Thirteen teams and 10 individuals not on those teams will compete at each of the three regionals while the other three regionals will have 14 teams and five individuals not on those teams. The low five teams (30 teams total) and the low individuals (six individuals total) not on those teams from each regional will advance to the finals.
Live scoring will be available here -https://scoreboard.clippd.com/tournaments/243255/scoring/team with a stream available at Babygrande Golf.
The NCAA Golf Championship will take place from May 28-June 2, at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California.
