
Mountaineers Drop Game to UCF on Easter Sunday

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 13 West Virginia University baseball team fell to No. 23 UCF, 5-1, Sunday afternoon at Kendrick Family Ballpark. The Mountaineers fall to 21-7 overall and 8-4 in the Big 12 while the Knights improve to 20-9 and 10-2 in league play to remain in first place.
Freshman Matthew Robaugh had two hits to lead WVU while sophomore Gavin Kelly had an RBI. On the mound, sophomore Chansen Cole suffered his first loss of the season as he allowed four runs, just one earned, in 5.2 innings while striking out six. Graduate student Reese Bassinger tossed 3.1 scoreless innings with four strikeouts to finish the game.
The Knights jumped out to the lead in the first on a solo home run by Andrew Williamson, his third of the weekend. In the sixth, UCF put up four unearned runs to expand its lead.
The Mountaineers had their best threat of the game in the eighth inning, loading the bases with no outs. However, WVU managed only one run on a sacrifice fly from Kelly.
West Virginia will be back at home on Tuesday, April 7, against Marshall. First pitch from Kendrick Family Ballpark is set for 6:30 p.m.
