Hodge Announces Signing of Martin Somerville

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's basketball coach Ross Hodge has announced the signing of Martin Somerville to a grant-in-aid to join the Mountaineers in 2026-27.
Somerville, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound junior from Bowie, Maryland, will come to Morgantown from Florida State, where he played last season.
"Martin has all of the leadership qualities and intangibles you look for in a player," Hodge said. "He is someone who can play on or off the ball scoring it or making plays for others. He is a connector and has an infectious personality. We are excited to add him to our program."
At Florida State, Somerville played in all 33 games, starting 10 and averaged 8.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.5 steals per game. He scored a season-high 23 points at Virginia Tech, shooting 9-of-11 from the field. Somerville also recorded 23 points against Jacksonville with five 3-point field goals made. He had 18 points at Syracuse, 15 points vs. Massachusetts, 14 points in games against Alabama State and Cal State-Bakersfield and 13 points at SMU. Somerville had a season-high seven assists against California in the ACC Tournament and had four steals in two games to go along with three steals against Duke, also in the ACC Tournament.
As a freshman, he was named the 2025 America East Rookie of the Year and was named to the America East All-Rookie Team at UMass Lowell. Somerville set an America East record by being named the conference's Rookie of the Week 11 times.
At UMass Lowell, Somerville averaged 13.6 points, 2.9 rebounds, 3.6 assists and 1.5 steals per game while shooting 40.5% from 3-point range. He led UMass Lowell with 75 3-point field goals made. Somerville scored a career-high 26 points against New Jersey Institute of Technology and set a UMass Lowell Division I record with 13 assists against UMBC. The UMBC game marked his first career double-double with 18 points and 13 assists.
Somerville graduated from Southern California Academy in 2024, where he averaged 14 points and five assists per game.
