
Hodge Announces Signing of Javan Buchanan

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – West Virginia University men's basketball coach Ross Hodge has announced the signing of Javan Buchanan to a grant-in-aid to join the Mountaineers in 2026-27.
Buchanan, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound senior from Lafayette, Indiana, will come to Morgantown from Boise State, where he played the last two seasons.
"Javan is one of those players that everyone loves playing with," Hodge said. "He has tremendous intangibles and great versatility. Javan makes everyone else better around him and will represent this state in a first-class manner."
This past season, Buchanan started 31 games, averaging 12.6 points and 5.0 rebounds per game. He shot 42.3% from the field and 83.6% from the free throw line. His career free throw percentage of 82.7% ranked third in Boise State history.
This past season, he was named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention and was named the Mountain West Sixth Man of the Year in 2024-25.
Buchanan scored a career-high 29 points at San Diego State. In the Mountain West tournament, he had a double-double with 28 points and 13 rebounds against San Jose State.
At Boise State, he scored 747 points and shot 47.6% from the floor. He scored double figures 21 times last season and 40 for his career.
In his first season at Boise State, he averaged 9.6 points while shooting 53.4% from the field, ranking third among all Mountain West players. He had a season-high 28 points against South Dakota State and had 27 points against Butler in the College Basketball Crown.
Buchanan was named to the NAIA All-American First Team at Indiana Wesleyan as a sophomore. He was fourth in NAIA with 273 field goals made and sixth in points with 718. Buchanan competed two years at Indiana Wesleyan.
Buchanan attended Lafayette Jefferson High School and averaged 20.5 points, 8.4 rebounds, 2.8 steals, 2.2 assists and 1.8 blocks per game. He earned Indiana All-Star honors as a senior.
