Mikie Sevick joined the Mountaineer rowing program as an assistant coach in 2021.
In May 2023, Sevick was invited to attend the 52
nd class of the NCAA Women Coaches Academy hosted by WeCOACH, where 102 women coaches gathered to improve their leadership skills and hear experiences of championship coaches.
Sevick came to West Virginia after serving as the head boys’ coach and program director for Westford Community Rowing in Westford Massachusetts. While at Westford, Sevick coached the boys’ varsity eight to a fifth-place finish at USRowing Northeast Youth Championships in 2017. Sevick also started a number of programs such as “Senior Rowing”, introducing erging, as well as on the water rowing to senior citizens.
Prior to Westford, Sevick worked with the Avon High School Crew Team, coaching their novice squads, as well as running strength and conditioning for the entire team.
In addition to coaching, Sevick coxed with the Riverfront Recapture Women’s racing team from 2010-14 and then again in 2019. While racing with Riverfront, Sevick helped lead her team to a fifth-place finish in the club 4+ during the 2011 season.
Sevick has worked with many clubs in Connecticut and Massachusetts, most notably working with “Rowing Strong - Rowing Together”, a program through Holyoke Rows that helps young mothers earn high school course credit through rowing.
Sevick began rowing in 2000 at Simsbury High School, where she rowed for seven seasons. She then graduated high school early to begin her enlistment in the United States Marine Corps. Once Sevick’s active duty enlistment commenced, she enrolled at the University of Connecticut and was a walk-on with the women’s rowing team. She rowed for a year, before becoming a coxswain and eventually earning a seat in the first varsity boat.
Sevick graduated from UConn in 2011 with her bachelor’s degree in sociology and her master's degree in integrated marketing communications from West Virginia in May 2024. She earned a certification in health and wellness from Harvard Medical School in Sept. 2023.
