Redenfors Named Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Junior Jacob Redenfors of the West Virginia University men's soccer team has been named the Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week.

In two games, Redenfors helped the Mountaineers go 1-0-1 this week which included a shutout against Duquesne. In a 1-1 draw against Marshall, the Varberg, Sweden native scored his first-career goal to help WVU claim a point on the road. While he was on the field, the Thundering Herd did not score a goal and only managed one shot on target.

It is the first time in his career that Redenfors has taken home conference player of the week honors. It is the second time this season that a Mountaineer has earned Sun Belt weekly honors after senior Pablo Pozos was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 15, and the fifth time overall that a Mountaineer has earned Sun Belt Defensive Player of the Week, the first since Dante Huckaby on Nov. 7, 2025.

The Mountaineers will be back on the pitch this Saturday, Oct. 3, against No. 1 South Carolina. Kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
