
Four Mountaineers Named ABCA All-East Region

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – Four West Virginia University baseball players have been named ABCA All-East Region. Redshirt junior starting pitcher Maxx Yehl was named to the first team while sophomore starting pitcher Chansen Cole, sophomore catcher Gavin Kelly, and graduate relief pitcher Ian Korn earned spots on the second team.
Yehl has been stellar on the mound for the Mountaineers with a 9-2 record while pitching to a 2.10 ERA and collecting 105 strikeouts in 90.0 innings pitched. His ERA leads the Big 12 and is sixth in the nation. This season, Yehl has already taken home Big 12 Pitcher of the Year, NCBWA Co-District 2 Player of the Year and was named as one of five finalists for National Pitcher of the Year.
Cole is 10-1 this season with a 2.85 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 94.2 innings. He leads the Big 12 and is eighth in the country in wins as he became the first 10-game winner for the Mountaineers since 2003. It adds to his list of accomplishments this season which include being named All-Big 12 First Team and to the Morgantown Regional All-Tournament Team.
Kelly is hitting .384 this season with 17 home runs and 57 RBI. Additionally, he has 89 hits, including 21 doubles and three triples, while scoring 66 runs. It adds to his list of honors this season as he was named All-Big 12 First Team, the NCAA Morgantown Regional Most Valuable Player, and the NCBWA District 2 Co-Player of the Year.
Korn has pitched in a variety of roles this season and has 3.07 ERA in 22 appearances, 19 of which have come out of the bullpen. He is 5-1 with 63 strikeouts and just 10 walks in 70.1 innings pitches while also collecting two saves. Korn was also named to the All-Big 12 First Team this season.
