MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 6 West Virginia University men's soccer team returns home on Wednesday, Sept. 3, to take on No. 13 Gardner-Webb. Kickoff from Dick Dlesk Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.

The Mountaineers are 2-0-1 on the season after playing to a scoreless draw on the road at No. 16 Akron, Friday evening. Graduate student
Marc Bonnaire made three saves to earn his second shutout of the season.
Senior
Marcus Caldeira and junior
Thijs Veldhorst swept the Sun Belt weekly awards as Caldeira was named Offensive Player of the Week by scoring two goals and Veldhorst earning Defensive Player of the Week by contributing to two shutouts and also scoring a goal against La Salle.
Overall, Caldeira leads the team with nine points on three goals and three assists. Junior
Pablo Pozos also has three goals while Veldhorst, graduate student
Bryce Swinehart, and senior
Ethan Dekel Daks each have one.
Gardner-Webb is led by third-year head coach Scott Wells, who is 20-13-7 during his time in Boiling Springs. The Runnin' Bulldogs were picked second in the Big South Preseason Coaches Poll, only behind fellow 2025 WVU opponent Hight Point.
Leo Andrade was named the Preseason Defensive Player of the Year while Alan Horrocks was named the Preseason Co-Goalkeeper of the Year. Jaylen Orr leads the team with three goals this season.
