
No. 2-Seed WVU Set to Begin Play at 2025 Big 12 Tournament

FORT WORTH, Texas – The No. 19-ranked West Virginia University women's soccer team is set to open postseason play in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Big 12 Soccer Tournament presented by Allstate. No. 2-seed WVU will kick off against No. 7-seed Kansas on Monday, Nov. 3, at 6:30 p.m. ET, at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium in Fort Worth, Texas.
Monday's match will be streamed live on ESPN+, with John Liddle and Laura Sadler on the call. Live stats also are available at WVUsports.com.
The Mountaineers hold a 17-5-3 mark all-time in Big 12 Tournament play, as they enter this year's tournament in search of their sixth Big 12 Tournament title. Last season, No. 3-seed West Virginia fell 1-0 in double overtime to No. 6-seed Kansas in the quarterfinals on Nov. 2.
All-time, West Virginia has claimed 18 conference championships, including five Big 12 Tournament titles. Most recently, WVU won the 2022 Big 12 Championship in Round Rock, Texas.
Monday's matchup marks the 18th meeting all time and second this season between West Virginia and Kansas, as the Mountaineers hold a 10-4-3 lead in the all-time series. The contest also marks the second straight season Kansas and West Virginia will meet in the Big 12 Tournament Quarterfinals. Last season, the Jayhawks earned the 1-0 win in double overtime in the quarterfinals, before going on to be crowned the 2024 Big 12 Tournament Champions. In the two teams' first meeting this year, the Mountaineers and Jayhawks played to a 2-2 draw in Lawrence on Oct. 16.
Last time out, West Virginia completed an unbeaten Big 12 Conference slate with a 2-1 win over Cincinnati in the regular-season finale on Oct. 30. Senior forward Ajanae Respass and junior midfielder Anna Hauer scored for the Mountaineers in the win, while Hauer's tally was marked as the game winner. Sophomore midfielder Maddie Levy was credited with the assist on both goals, her first two-assist performance of her career.
West Virginia topped the Bearcats 11-6 in shots and 6-1 in shots on goal, while UC earned five corner kicks compared to just three for WVU. Respass led the offense with the goal, four shots and three on frame. The Mountaineer defense wasn't able to earn the shutout but managed to hold Cincinnati to just one shot on goal.
Nate Lie is in his second season as the head women's soccer coach at the University of Kansas. The Jayhawks enter Monday's quarterfinal matchup with a 12-4-3 record this season and a 6-4-1 mark in the Big 12, as they are coming off a 2-1 loss to No. 11 Colorado in the regular-season finale on Oct. 30. Lexi Watts leads the Jayhawks offense so far this season with nine goals and 20 points.
