Kyle Poland began his journey in athletics in September 2021 as an assistant with the WVU Varsity Club. In this capacity, he contributed to the development of West Virginia University’s athletics alumni database and played a role in organizing special events.
In March 2022, Poland received a promotion to assistant director of student-athlete alumni engagement, where he oversaw the WVU Varsity Club. He later transitioned into a development officer role as the Associate Director of Development for major gifts.
Recently, in July 2025, Kyle was elevated to the position of Director of Athletics Development. In this role, he focuses on securing major and principal gifts, as well as managing capital projects and establishing endowments for student-athlete scholarships.
Poland concluded a successful playing career at WVU in 2020, serving as the team’s long snapper. Following his playing days, he contributed to the external affairs initiatives of Mountaineer football, assisting with alumni and donor relations.
He also completed two internships within athletics; one occurred after his playing career under Chief Operating Officer/Deputy Director of Athletics Keli Zinn, and the other took place while he was a Mountaineer player, working with the basketball equipment staff.
During his time as a Mountaineer player, he earned recognition as an Academic All-Big 12 First Team member and was inducted into the National Football Foundation Hampshire Honor Society in 2020. Additionally, he was a four-time honoree on the Big 12 Commissioner’s and West Virginia University honor rolls in 2016, 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Poland obtained his bachelor’s degree in sport management from WVU in 2019 and completed his master’s degree in sport management in the spring of 2021.
Kyle, along with his wife Katie and their two daughters, Riley and Reese, currently resides in Morgantown.
