Kendall Smith joined Mountaineer athletics in July 2023 and serves as the director of compliance. In this role, she is responsible for assuring that the athletics department complies with all applicable rules and regulations of the NCAA, Big 12 and West Virginia University. Her primary sports responsibilities are women's basketball, gymnastics, women's tennis and volleyball and she assists with men's basketball.
Smith, born and raised in Dana Point, California, most recently completed her law degree at the University of San Diego where she also gained experience in the compliance department. There, she maintained recruitment, admission and eligibility records for prospects and student-athletes, and assisted in the preparation of rules educational seminars for coaches and staff. She also created and posted rules educational content for all social media platforms.
Smith graduated law school with a Pro Bono Service Recognition with High Distinction, awarded to those who volunteer a minimum of 250 hours of pro bono legal service. Specifically, she volunteered with the University of San Diego Veterans Legal Clinic, committed to offering veterans free legal services.
Prior to San Diego, she earned a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University in Portuguese, with a minor in Africana studies. While at BYU, she served as an academic mentor for Cougar student-athletes.
She resides in Morgantown.
