As WVU’s Executive Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services and Wellness, Brittney O’Dell oversees the Academic, Student-Athlete Development, Sports Medicine, Strength and Conditioning, Clinical and Sport Psychology and Nutrition units. She is also the sport administrator for the women’s tennis and men’s and women’s swimming and diving programs and serves on the NCAA Division I Swimming and Diving Committee.
O’Dell is committed to academic excellence, supporting the educational and personal growth of all student-athletes, while also ensuring their overall well-being. Under her charge, the Student-Athlete Academic Services unit saw a record-high Academic Progress Rate of 990 and a Graduation Success Rate of 94%. The Clinical and Sport Psychology unit also launched its own wing in the newly renovated Academic Performance Center, with O’Dell overseeing the creation of the Student-Athlete Relaxation Room, a space dedicated to promoting mental health for student-athletes.
O’Dell has been a member of the WVU Athletics staff since 2015. She previously served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Services and Wellness (2022-2023), Associate Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development (2021-2022), Assistant Athletics Director for Student-Athlete Development (2018-2021), Associate Director for Student-Athlete Development (2016-2018), and Assistant Director for Student-Athlete Development (2015-2016).
O’Dell is a native of Orlando, Florida and came to West Virginia after serving as a coordinator of academic advising services at the University of Central Florida for four years (2011-15) and was a graduate assistant there for two years prior (2009-2011). O’Dell graduated with a bachelor’s degree in family and child sciences with a concentration in psychology and counseling from Florida State University (FSU) in 2008. She earned her master’s degree in educational leadership from UCF in 2011.
