Jimmy Mattocks joined West Virginia University’s athletic training staff in December 2024 and currently serves as the athletic trainer for the Mountaineer rowing program.
Mattocks’ responsibilities include day-to-day care, rehabilitation and injury prevention.
He came to West Virginia after working with Baptist Health for just under two years, where he served as the sports medicine operations manager. In his position, he was responsible for leading 48 athletic trainers and three athletic training managers across four different markets. He also led the operations of the sports medicine department of Louisville City FC, Racing Louisville FC, FC Soccer Youth Academy and 35 high schools and middle schools.
Mattocks made previous stops at University of Louisville Health and Thomas More University as a certified athletic trainer. He also served as an athletic trainer for the Cincinnati Reds from 2006 to 2021, spending the 2016 to 2021 seasons as an assistant major league athletic trainer for the Reds.
He earned his bachelor of science degree in athletic training from Northern Arizona in May 2004 and a master of science in exercise and sport science from Oregon State in March 2006. While at Oregon State, he served as graduate assistant athletic trainer for men’s soccer for two seasons.
He currently resides in Morgantown with his wife, Alma, and son, Brady.
