CINCINNATI – Friday night's baseball game between No. 12 West Virginia and Cincinnati has been suspended due to rain in the bottom of the 12th inning with the score tied, 5-5. The game will resume on Saturday at 3 p.m., followed by the regularly scheduled game.
Sophomore Gavin Kelly hit a two-run home run in the first inning, his team-leading sixth of the season. Senior Ben Lumsden had two RBI while senior Paul Schoenfeld had two hits and an RBI.
On the mound, graduate student Ian Korn made his first start of the season. He struck five across four scoreless innings to begin the game but ran into trouble in the fifth as the Bearcats scored four runs to take the lead.
In the eighth inning, the Mountaineers tied it up as Lumsden had a two-out, pinch hit single to score two runs. Cincinnati hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth to retake the lead, but in the ninth, Schoenfeld drove in a run with a pop-fly single to even the game back up.
Graduate student Reese Bassinger put up a scoreless ninth to send the game to extras and continued with scoreless 10thand 11th innings as well. He got an out in the 12th before the game was suspended on a 3-2 count to Cincinnati's Charlie Niehaus.
