MORGANTOWN, W.Va. - The West Virginia University volleyball team (10-8, 3-5 Big 12) dropped a four-set decision to UCF on Sunday afternoon at The Venue in Orlando, Florida. The Knights earned the victory by set scores of 25-21, 18-25, 25-17 and 25-22.

The Mountaineers responded to an opening-set loss by taking the second set, 25-18, to even the match at one set apiece. WVU rallied from an early deficit in the frame, using a strong stretch of serving and attacking to turn a 15-11 disadvantage into a 25-18 win, including an 8-0 run to end it.

The Knights (10-8, 2-6 Big 12) controlled the third set, hitting .485 with 18 kills to take a 25-17 win and regain the match lead.

UCF carried that momentum into the fourth set, overcoming an early WVU advantage to build a 20-16 lead. The Mountaineers fought back to even it at 21, but the Knights closed out the match, 25-22.

Senior outside hitter Nina Horning led WVU with 10 kills, while sophomore right side Anna Barr added nine kills. Freshman outside hitter Macie Smith contributed eight kills, and senior middle blocker Maddy McGath finished with seven kills while hitting .308.

Senior setter Alexis Finnvold recorded 22 assists, and freshman defensive specialist/libero Reagan Turk paced the Mountaineers with 18 digs.

UCF's senior outside hitter Avah Armour led all players with 22 kills, helping the Knights finish with a .293 hitting percentage. The Knights also held a 56-43 advantage in kills, while WVU finished with 10 total team blocks.

West Virginia is now 2-5 all-time against UCF and is set to face the Knights again back in Morgantown on Sunday, Nov. 15.

Next up, the Mountaineers return home on Friday, Oct. 23, to take on Arizona inside Hope Coliseum. First serve is set for 6 p.m. ET.
