After 10 years of working as a Production Assistant and Producer/Director for WVU University Relations, Chris Ostien joined the WVU Athletics Department full time in October of 2007 and is currently in the role of assistant director, big screens.
Ostien moved to Morgantown in June of 1997 to work in the Radio and Television Services department at West Virginia University. During that time he served as a freelancer for the athletics department, producing for Mountaineer Magazine and Mountaineer Jammin’. He also served as replay operator for the video board at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium. He assumed the role of video board producer in 2005.
Outside of his work for the Mountaineers, Ostien has worked as a freelancer for every major television network and sports network in the country, either as an EVS Op, Producer or Director.
Since taking his current position in 2007, he has served as Video Board producer ( of content and game day execution) for Milan Puskar Stadium, The WVU Coliseum, and Wagener Field at Monongalia County Ballpark. He has implemented a student workforce overseeing more than 40 student workers. He leads the training, development and crewing for all undergrad employees for both Big 12 Now on ESPN+ and live show for video board venues at WVU. He creates much of the content you see on gameday. He works closely with Learfield for game day execution and heavily with the WVU Marketing Department in creating a complete fan experience. In July of 2022, he was named WVU Athletics Video – Assistant Director, Big Screens.
A native of North Apollo, Pennsylvania, Ostien graduated from California University of Pennsylvania in 1996 with a degree in Radio and Television. He serves as adjunct faculty for the College of Media at WVU, and spends his summers working as the lead producer for the West Virginia Black Bears of the MLB Draft League. He and his wife Jenny reside in Morgantown with their son Alex.
