
Mountaineers Travel to Marshall for Midweek Matchup

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 23 West Virginia University baseball team hits the road to take on Marshall on Wednesday, March 4. First pitch from Jack Cook Field in Huntington is set for 5 p.m.

The game was added to the schedule after the two home games against Radford were cancelled. It will be the first of four games against Marshall this season and the first of two in Huntington.
The Mountaineers are 8-2 this season after taking two of three over the weekend against Kennesaw State. WVU won the first two games of the series, 12-4, and 9-1, before falling in the finale, 7-6.
Sophomore Gavin Kelly was named the Big 12 Player of the Week after hitting .579 (11-for-19) with two home runs, three doubles, six RBI, and seven runs scored. Junior Dawson Montesa was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after striking out 11 batters in 7.0 innings against the Owls. He allowed just one run on four hits and one walk to earn the win.

Led by fourth-year head coach Greg Beals, Marshall was picked fourth in the Sun Belt preseason poll. The Thundering Herd are 4-6 this season entering their Tuesday night matchup with Virginia Tech.
Evan Bottone leads the team with a .400 batting average and four home runs. Landon Doll has been Marshall's top reliever this season with 1.80 ERA and eight strikeouts in 5.0 innings.
