
No. 16 West Virginia Drops Home Finale to No. 20 Missouri

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 16 West Virginia University Wrestling team lost to No. 20 Missouri, 26-13, in its final home match of the regular season on Friday night at Hope Coliseum in Morgantown.
West Virginia (9-4, 4-2 Big 12) dropped just its second Big 12 Conference match of the season and is 2-4 against ranked opponents this year.
It was a hot start for the Mountaineers after they rattled off victories in their first three bouts. In his final home appearance, graduate student No. 9 Jett Strickenberger (125) earned his sixth win against a ranked opponent with a win by decision over No. 16 Mack Mauger.
Freshman No. 16 Gunner Andrick followed Strickenberger with a gritty win over No. 26 Gage Walker, 4-2. Andrick improved to 6-2 against Big 12 wrestlers and now has six ranked wins this year.
Redshirt senior Jordan Titus earned West Virginia's third consecutive victory to begin the night, as he defeated Easton Hilton by decision, 4-2, in the 141-pound bout. After just three bouts, the Mountaineers led 9-0.
Following a loss by redshirt freshman TJ Langley in the 149-pound bout, redshirt sophomore No. 7 Ty Watters earned West Virginia's (157) last win. Watters rolled past No. 17 Teague Travis, winning by major decision, 8-0. Watters improves to 7-0 against ranked opponents.
The next five bouts belonged to the Tigers as they are now 6-0 all-time in the series against West Virginia.
