MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – A trio of Mountaineers were named preseason All-Americans by the NCBWA on Friday, with junior pitcher Chase Meyer landing on the second team, while junior outfielder Armani Guzman and graduate student pitcher Ian Korn earned slots on the fourth team.
As a sophomore in 2025, Meyer put together a strong season on the mound, going 9-2 with a 3.94 ERA. He struck out 63 batters in 48.0 innings while earning one save. In his career, he has 91 strikeouts in 67.1 innings pitched.
Guzman played 49 games in 2025 and blossomed at the end of the season, where he was named the Clemson Regional Most Outstanding Player. Overall, he hit .327 with two home runs, 22 RBI, and 27 runs scored while leading the team with 17 stolen bases.
Korn transfers to the Mountaineers after four years at Seton Hill. In 2025, he was named the Division II National Pitcher of the Year by NCBWA, ABCA, and D2CCA as he went 11-2 as a senior with a 1.81 ERA and 83 strikeouts in 84.1 innings.
With these selections, West Virginia now has 14 players in its history who have been named preseason All-Americans. It is also the fifth time in the last six seasons that at least one Mountaineer has earned preseason All-America status from the NCBWA.
The Mountaineers begin the 2026 campaign on Feb. 13 at Georgia Southern. The first chance to catch WVU at Wagener Field at Kendrick Family Ballpark will be on Feb. 24, when the Mountaineers take on Canisius.
