
Sullivan, Mimoso Place to Finish Big 12 Championships for WVU

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Senior Abigail Sullivan and freshman Rafael Mimoso earned their first individual career medals to wrap up the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships for the West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving team on Saturday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Mimoso ended his debut season with a seventh-place finish in the men's 200-yard breaststroke (1:55.84). He swam the second-fastest time in program history (1:55.67) during prelims to qualify for the A final. Two other Mountaineers posted top-10 program times in the 200 breast, as freshman Caden Oprandy recorded a 1:56.70 in prelims and sophomore Erik Petruzzi touched the wall at 1:57.35 to finish second in the C final.
Sullivan rolled into the A final after finishing fourth in the prelims on platform. She would go on to place eighth with 227.85 points.
Redshirt senior Natasha Whittall finished her WVU career recording the seventh-fastest time in school history in the 200-yard backstroke (1:58.45) during prelims. She placed seventh in the B final on Saturday night. Freshman Giada Del Medico also posted a top-10 time, finishing 1:59.32 in the C final.
The other highlight of the night came in the men's 1650-yard freestyle with freshman Jake Salcedo swimming the fourth-fastest time in school history (15:21.63) to place 14th. On the women's side, senior Olivia Busch placed 15th with a final time of 16:52.09.
In the final event of the night, the men's relay team placed seventh in the 400-yard freestyle relay (2:55.87). In the lead off, redshirt junior Christian Simpson swam the 10th-fastest time in school history (43.93)
West Virginia finished seventh out of seven teams on the men's side and 10th out of 10 on the women's side.
