February 23, 2026 12:21 PM | Men's Swimming & Diving, Women's Swimming & Diving
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving team begins the five-day meet for the 2026 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships presented by Allstate at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina.
All sessions will be streamed on ESPN+.
This is the second consecutive year the championships have been hosted at a neutral site. Last year, the Big 12 competed in Federal Way, Washington. In the second year under head coach Brent MacDonald, the Mountaineers have seen significant improvement. The men's team (3-2) has seen major contributions from newcomers throughout the year, with freshman Jake Salcedo leading the way in the distance events.
Salcedo has won multiple events throughout the year, swimming the 500-yard, 1000 and 1650 freestyle. He holds the second-fastest time in program history for the 1000-yard (8:13.38) freestyle and is fifth all-time in the 500 (4:23.80).
Virginia Tech transfer, junior Vedaant Madhavan, has paired nicely with Salcedo in the distance events. He has won the 1650-yard freestyle throughout the year for WVU, posting the second-fastest time in program history in the event at the WVU Invitational in November.
In the diving well, sophomore Levi Hellmann has built off a stellar freshman campaign to lead the squad. In the team's last dual meet, he won on platform and placed second on 1-meter against Penn State.
The women's team (3-4) has also seen big contributions from a variety of student-athletes. Sophomore MJ Gilligan has steadily risen to lead the team in the 400-yard individual medley. Against Penn State, she recorded the second-fastest time in program history for the event (4:18.21) and placed second.
Freshman Macey Larson has put together a stellar freshman season, recording the fourth-fastest time in program history for the 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.35) and the eighth-fastest time for the 200 breaststroke (2:16.86).
In the diving well, senior Abigail Sullivan continues to set the tone for the Mountaineers, winning multiple events throughout the season.
