
Mountaineers Finish NCAA Qualifier with a 9485.67

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 4-ranked West Virginia University rifle team shot a 4737 in the qualifying match for the 2025-26 NCAA Rifle Championships on Saturday afternoon, at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building in Morgantown.
West Virginia (18-1, 5-0 GARC) finished the match with scores of 2350 in smallbore and 2387 in air rifle to compile its team score. The Mountaineers' top three scores this season include a 4755 at Navy, 4746 at home and 4745 at Memphis to give WVU a season average of 4748.67. Together, WVU's qualifying score evens out to 9485.67.

This weekend's qualifying scores will be tabulated to determine the top eight teams who will make up the field at this year's NCAA Championships, which will be announced on Monday, Feb. 23, on NCAA.com at 6 p.m. ET.
The NCAA Championships are being hosted by Ohio State and are scheduled for March 13-14. The season-ending event will take place inside the Covelli Center in Columbus, Ohio.
Juniors Lauri Syrja and Griffin Lake, sophomores Jennifer Kocher and Camryn Camp and freshman Oceanne Muller each served as counters for the NCAA Qualifier.
Lake hit the top mark in the field with a 1190. He was the only athlete to break 590 in smallbore with a 592 and added a second-place mark of 598 in air rifle. Camp and Mueller finished in second after scoring similar 1185 scores. Camp hit marks of 588 in smallbore and 197 in air rifle, while Mueller scored the top mark in air rifle with a 599 and added a 586 in smallbore.
Jacob Wisman scored a 1182 (585 SB - 597 AR) to finish fourth, Jack Ogoreuc hit a 1177 (583 SB – 594 AR) in fifth, while Ashlyn Blake posted a sixth-place finish with a 1177 (582 SB – 595 AR). Syrja finished in seventh with a 1176, as Kocher took eighth with a 1174. Maximus Duncan finished in 10th with a 1155 while Hana Strakusek only competed in air rifle, where she turned in a 591 to finish in eight in the discipline.
Next up, West Virginia is on the road for the 2025-26 Great America Rifle Conference (GARC) Championships, at the Tronsrue Marksmanship Center in West Point, New York. The event will take place on Feb. 28 and March 1, with both sessions beginning at 9 a.m. ET.
