
West Virginia Sweeps Loyola in Dual Meet

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and diving teams defeated Loyola (Md.) in dual meet action on Sunday at The Peak Health Aquatic Center at Mylan Park in Morgantown.
The men's swimming and diving team (2-0) remains undefeated following a 192.50-107.50 victory. The women's swimming and diving team (2-1) earned its second dual meet win of the season after a dominating, 201-99, performance.
It was an impressive afternoon for both squads as multiple swimmers posted top-10 program times in various events. Junior Maddie Smutny began the day winning the 1000-yard freestyle (10:05.75) after swimming the ninth-fastest time in program history in the event.
Freshman Macey Larson also posted a top-10 time as she won the women's 100-yard breaststroke (1:02.80) to tie the fourth-fastest time in program history for that event.
In the men's 200-yard backstroke, sophomore Szymon Mieczkowski recorded the sixth-fastest time in program history as he placed second with a final time of 1:44.84. Freshman Rafael Mimoso also posted a top-10 time as he won the men's 200-yard breaststroke (1:57.51) with the seventh-fastest time in program history.
Freshman Jake Salcedo continued his dominant first year by winning the men's 1000-yard freestyle (9:21.77) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:28.42).
In the diving well, West Virginia continued to perform well as senior Abigail Sullivan won both events for the women's team. Sullivan used 293.18 total points to win the 3-meter event and scored 274.13 points to win on 1-meter.
The Mountaineers swept the women's 3-meter as freshman Stevi Chalemou placed second (284.85) and redshirt senior Amari Brown Swint placed third (251.78).
Sullivan posted an NCAA Zone Diving Championships qualifying score on 1-meter and 3-meter. Chalemou's score qualifies her on 3-meter for the NCAA Zone Diving Championships.
On the men's side, sophomore Levi Hellmann won on 1-meter (298.43) and 3-meter (331.43). Redshirt senior Glenn Eloriaga placed second in both events. Hellmann and Eloriaga each qualified for NCAA Zones on 3-meter.
West Virginia returns to competition with the WVU Invitational on Nov. 20-22 in Morgantown.
