Kevin Johnston returned to Mountaineer Athletics in February 2025 as its Varsity Club Director in charge of former WVU student-athlete outreach.
Johnston was West Virginia’s assistant equipment manager from 1997 until 2009, and his responsibilities then included the ordering and issuing of athletic equipment, maintaining an up-to-date inventory and supervising West Virginia’s student and graduate student staff.
After leaving WVU, he spent the last 14 years working in the insurance industry, most recently for the National Teachers Associates Life Insurance Company.
A native of Pine Grove, West Virginia, Johnston is a 1992 West Virginia graduate in sports management. He received a master’s degree from WVU in 1995 in higher education administration and served as a manager with the men’s basketball team during his undergraduate and graduate years.
He is the father of two daughters, Madison and Avery, and resides in Morgantown.
