Katie McGrain joined the Mountaineer student-athlete development staff in August 2024 as an academic counselor.
In this role, she is responsible for providing academic support for West Virginia University men's and women's swimming and volleyball student-athletes in the areas of study skills, note taking, time management, test-taking strategies, personal and skill development and instruction in course work.
She monitors and documents the academic progress of the student-athletes, assists the students with course schedules and selecting academic majors and helps them with learning disabilities to acquire and use accommodations.
She comes to WVU from Old Dominion University where she spent five seasons playing lacrosse for the Monarchs, including three as team captain.
Her professional experience includes working as a student-athlete academic services graduate assistant where she assisted in advising ODU baseball, men’s basketball, women’s soccer and women’s tennis athletes from August 2023 to May 2024.
McGrain earned Summa Cum Laude honors while earning her master’s degree in sports management in 2024. As an undergraduate, also studying sports management, she was named to the Dean’s List and received numerous academic awards through Conference USA.
Originally from Forest Hill, Maryland, McGrain comes from an athletic family that includes both parents being marathon runners and her two younger siblings competing in Division I women’s soccer.
McGrain resides in Morgantown.
