• Competed in multiple events at the 2025 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships
• Won on platform (245.20) at the Rutgers Diving Invitational
• Placed second on the 1-meter (258.75) and the 3-meter (282.10) at the Rutgers Diving Invitational 
• Placed third on platform (254.20) at the WVU Invitational
• Part of the team that won the team diving (296.05) event at the WVU Invitational
• Placed third on the 1-meter (272.25) and fourth on the 3-meter (298.58) at the WV State Games

2023-24 (Junior)

• Competed in the 1-meter, 3-meter and platform events at the 2024 Big 12 Swimming and Diving Championships
• Named to the College Sports Communicators 2023-24 Academic All-District Team
• 2024 Winter Academic All-Big 12 First Team

2022-23 (Sophomore)

• Finished fourth in the men’s 1-meter springboard at the West Virginia State Games
• Finished fourth in the men’s 1-meter springboard, and fifth in the men’s 3-meter springboard against the University of Cincinnati
• Finished second in the men’s 3-meter springboard against Penn State
• Named to the 2023 Winter Academic All-Big 12 First Team

2021-22 (Freshman)

• Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll
• Won the platform consolation finals at the 2022 Big 12 Championships with a total of 256.65; also, appeared in the consolation finals on 1-meter (5th – 226.10) and 3-meter (6th – 210.70)
• Against Villanova, he took seventh on 1-meter (221.15) and sixth on 3-meter (233.30)
• Competed in the championship finals on 1-meter (8th – 226.60) and platform (7th – 232.65) at the WVU Invitational; additionally, he took second in the 3-meter consolation finals with a total score of 225.95
• Finished fourth on 1-meter (234.83) and 3-meter (244.95) against Penn State to open his collegiate diving career

High School

• Dove at Hilliard Darby High School and was coached by his father, Thad Apel
• Member of the Ohio State Diving Club and ACES Diving Club and dove under Mandy Eby, Matt Ventura and Jen White
• Two-time conference champion
• Four-time state qualifier at the OHSAA State Championships; Apel placed ninth as a sophomore and took during his junior and senior year
• Three-time All-Ohio Diver
• Apel is a two-time NISCA All-American on 1-meter
• NISCA Academic All-American
• Named to Central Ohio Super 12 Team for Boys Swimming & Diving his senior year
• Was a three-time MVP
• Holds the high school record for both six dives and 11 dives
• Qualified several times for USA Diving Zone & Nationals
