Mountaineers Sweep Cincinnati for First Conference Victory

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University tennis team (7-9, 1-8 Big 12) earned its first conference win of the season on Saturday morning, defeating Cincinnati (6-10, 1-8 Big 12), 4-0, at the Summit Tennis Academy.

The Mountaineers opened strong in doubles play, securing the point with victories on courts two and three. Lucia Tognoni and Laura Villanueva Morillo earned a 6-4 win, followed by Lyla Byers and Sosanne Malaak with a 6-4 victory to clinch the doubles point. The match on court one went unfinished.

West Virginia carried that momentum into singles play, earning three victories to secure the sweep. Laura Villanueva Morillo put the Mountaineers ahead with a straight-set win on court two, while Lyla Byers followed with a 6-4, 6-3 victory on court four.
Julie Bousseau clinched the match on court three, rallying for a three-set win to seal the Mountaineers' first conference victory of the season.
