
Mountaineers Return Home for Big 12 Dual Meet on Valentine’s Day

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University gymnastics team returns home for a Big 12 Conference matchup against Arizona State on Saturday, February 14. Competition inside Hope Coliseum in Morgantown is scheduled for 6 p.m. ET.
It's Galentine's Day, and there's no better place to spend it than Hope Coliseum for a Big 12 gymnastics showdown. Tickets purchased in advance through WVUGAME.com will be priced at $10. Group tickets for parties of 10 or more will be available for $5 per person in advance. On-site, meet day pricing will be $12 for adults and $10 for seniors and youth (ages 18 and under).

Arizona State leads the all-time series against the Mountaineers by a 4-2 advantage. The two teams first met in 1998, a 195.875-190.6 Arizona State win in Tempe. West Virginia and Arizona State last met in the 2025 Big 12 Championship in West Valley City, Utah. ASU took fifth place with a 195.975 team total, while WVU finished in seventh with a 194.875. West Virginia and Arizona State also met in a dual meet during the regular season last year. The Sun Devils claimed a 195.825-196.225 victory in Tempe on Feb. 21.
Saturday's matchup marks the first of two scheduled competitions between the Mountaineers and Sun Devils this season. The two teams will face one another in the 2026 Big 12 Championship in West Valley City, Utah, on March 21. Arizona State enters Saturday's competition with a 3-3 overall record and a 1-1 mark in the Big 12 so far in 2026. ASU is coming off a 195.875-196.95 loss to conference foe Denver on Feb. 7
Last time out, West Virginia used a season-high road score to earn a second-place finish in a tri meet at Northern Illinois with Western Michigan in DeKalb, Illinois, on Feb. 6. The Mountaineers scored a 194.775 to finish in second place. Western Michigan finished in first place with a 195.575, and Northern Illinois was third with a 193.7. The Mountaineers posted scores of 48.925 on vault, 48.4 on bars, 48.225 on beam and 49.225 on floor.
On all-around, freshman Kayla Smith posted a 38.925 for her third career all-around win. Sophomore Taylor Tuohy's career-high score on vault helped her secure her first career event win, as well as the first podium finish of her career. Junior Amber Lowe's stellar night included a win on beam and a second-place finish on bars. Finally, Kayla Smith, sophomore Emerson Smith and freshman Auden Pederson finished in a tie for first place on floor.
Of note, West Virginia was originally scheduled to compete in a Big 12 Conference dual meet at Iowa State on Feb. 6, but the Cyclones canceled the meet on Feb. 5 due to not being able to safely field a team. Per a Big 12 Conference ruling, Iowa State's cancelation was ruled a forfeit, giving WVU an automatic win.
West Virginia's vault lineup currently ranks No. 29 nationally in the Road to Nationals rankings, boasting a 48.905 average on the event this year. The vault lineup owns a season high of 49.025, a total it has reached twice this season. Elsewhere, WVU ranks No. 48 overall, No. 47 on bars, No. 62 on beam and No. 46 on floor exercise.
Individually, Kayla Smith ranks No. 10 in the conference with a 38.82 average on all-around this year. Emerson Smith ranks No. 16 in the Big 12 Conference with a 9.78 average on vault, and Lowe is No. 12 in the conference on bars (9.785). On floor, junior Jurnee Lane ranks No. 11 in the league with a 9.833 average.
