MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Mountaineer Athletic Club, has teamed with DAC Energy for the second consecutive year to purchase $100,000 worth of WVU men's basketball tickets to be distributed into the communities of West Virginia.
DAC Energy is based in Alma, West Virginia, and wants Mountaineer basketball accessible to all West Virginians. Founded by Ken and Jennifer Mason, DAC Energy continues to ensure that financial barriers don't stand in the way of families, youth groups and community members experiencing WVU sporting events.
"Jennifer and I are grateful to be able to continue this gift for a second year. We heard from so many people last year how much they enjoyed going to the games, spending family time together and experiencing WVU basketball," Ken Mason said. "The state and the University have been good to us, and we see this as a way to bring a new generation of fans closer to the Mountaineers."
In 2010, Ken Mason was named the West Virginia Oil and Gas Man of the Year for his outstanding achievements and leadership. The native West Virginian graduated from Valley High School in Wetzel County and is a 1975 graduate of WVU. He has been a past director, chairman and leader of the West Virginia Independent Oil and Gas Association (IOGA), the Environmental and Safety Committee, the West Virginia Oil and Natural Gas Association and the Independent Producers Association. Â
Rooted in the values of integrity, safety and community, that same dedication to quality and care expands beyond DAC Energy's work sites and extends into their support of schools, local organizations, youth athletics and the communities they call home.
DAC Energy, under the leadership of the Masons, is much more than a longtime supporter of WVU football and basketball. In 2007, DAC Energy developed a student-oriented oil and gas well project to benefit WVU academically and financially. Their past generosity and support to the Mountain State also extends to the WVU Cancer Institute, the WVU Eye Institute and the WVU Hearts Of Gold Program.
Â
"Ken and Jennifer Mason are true West Virginians who always want the best for the state and their local communities. They work hard and never hesitate to step up and help when needed," WVU Vice President and Director of Athletics Wren Baker said. "The gift, again this year, will bring fans to our campus to support Mountaineer basketball, and we can't thank Ken and Jennifer enough for their continued generosity."
Tickets will be made available through community outreach to youth development, mentoring, nonprofit, community, and faith-based organizations for all nonconference games (excluding Virginia Tech) and select Big 12 matchups.
