Rifle Set for Two Weekend Road Matches

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The West Virginia University rifle team is set to take part in two matches this weekend in West Point, N.Y., as the team hits the road for the first time this season.

WVU kicks off competition on Saturday when they take on Army inside the Tronsrue Markmanship Center. The match begins at 8 a.m. ET and will serve as the first of five Great America Rifle Conference matches on the schedule this season.

The Mountaineers then continue action with a neutral site matchup against Norwich and John Jay on Sunday inside the Tronsrue Markmanship Center.

West Virginia is 46-10 all-time against Army in a series that began in 1957. The two programs met one-time last season, when WVU won 4745-4719. WVU is 4-0 all-time against Norwich and hold a 1-0 mark against John Jay.

The Mountaineers kicked off the season with a 4737 aggregate team score, the second-highest total in the nation on opening weekend. The mark of 2386 in air rifle proved to be the weekend's top score. The mark was helped along after Oceanne Muller scored the program's 12th-ever perfect 600 in air rifle.
