
West Virginia Overwhelms Mount Aloysius in Home Opener

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The No. 3-ranked West Virginia University rifle team rolled over Mount Aloysius, 4741-4535, on Saturday morning in the team's home opener at the Bill McKenzie Mobile Rifle Range inside the WVU Shell Building.
West Virginia ran its win streak to 32 straight matches, tied for the fifth-longest win streak in program history. The streak spans three seasons and dates back to the beginning of the 2023-24 campaign. The Mountaineers also strung together 32 wins from 1994 to 1997.
The Mountaineers produced winning efforts in both smallbore and air rifle, with scores of 2359 and 2382, respectively. Mount Aloysius finished with scores of 2236 in smallbore and 2299 in air rifle.
For smallbore and air rifle, junior Lauri Syrja, and sophomores Jennifer Kocher, Ashlyn Blake and Camryn Camp and freshman Jack Ogoreuc served as counters. The Mountaineers claimed the top six aggregate scores on the afternoon.
Camp set the pace for the match with a new season-high aggregate score of 1188. She hit marks of 592 in smallbore and 596 in air rifle, as both were the top scores of the match. All three of Camp's marks were season highs. Blake finished just behind in second place with an aggregate score of 1186. She hit scores of 591 in smallbore, a season high, and 595 in air rifle.
Syrja finished in third place with a season-high score of 1183. He scored a 588 in smallbore and a 595 in air rifle. Jennifer Kocher and Jack Ogoreuc finished in a tie for fourth place with matching 1179 aggregate totals. Kocher scored a 583 in smallbore and tied for a match high 596 in air rifle. Ogoreuc scored a season high 588 in smallbore and added a 591 mark for air rifle.
Maximus Duncan was the final Mountaineer in action, scoring a 1169 (574 SB – 595 AR). His mark in air rifle was a season best.
West Virginia is back in action on Saturday, Nov. 8, when it takes on TCU in a neutral-site matchup. The contest will take place inside the X-Count Club in Fort Wayne, Indiana, at 9 a.m. ET. WVU closes out the weekend on Sunday when they take on UTEP and Murray State inside Converse Hall in Columbus, Ohio, at 9 a.m. ET.
